Maghera people ‘will benefit’ from extended bus service - Kearney

New time tabling arrangements now mean that Maghera and south Derry residents can avail of a later bus leaving Derry City.

As from the 1st July the last 212 service from the City will now be at 11pm. (Mon-Sat).

Councillor Kearney, who represents Carntogher, said: “This is a good news story for Maghera and the local area. As a result of the Derry City Year of Culture, I have, for some time, been lobbying Translink for a late night service from Derry.

“The present 212 last service leaving Derry at 10 pm severely limits the opportunity for South Derry people to socialise in the City for example dining out or attending a show.”

However, Councillor Kearney did add that the Derry area was still at a competitive disadvantage compared to Belfast where a late night 212 service would now be available until 1am.

While welcoming this new service from Derry councillor Kearney said he would like to see a slightly later service of perhaps 11.30 pm.

“I am pleased with this outcome, especially when we hear so much about cutbacks in services,” he added.
