McClarty welcomes move to boost ICT skills

ULSTER Unionist MLA David McClarty has welcomed an initiative from the Department of Employment and Learning which would offer free computer classes to those who wish to update or improve their Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills at the Northern Regional College Coleraine campus and the Limavady Campus of the North West Regional College.

“This is an excellent opportunity for those who feel that their IT skills are simply falling behind, or for those who feel that they could become better equipped when it comes to computer literacy,” said Mr McClarty.

“In today’s workplace computers and technology are as important as basic reading or writing skills and are often a requirement from various employers. For that reason, Reg’s introduction of this initiative will be a welcome boost to those who may have perhaps been left behind in a digital age. This is part of DEL’s drive to create a cutting edge NI workforce.

“The introduction of free Entry Level ICT classes means that anyone can improve their computer literacy. Those in East Londonderry who have previously felt isolated by a lack of computer skills will now be given the opportunity to join classes at Coleraine and Limavady which will open up a new world of learning.”
