Mine approval

PLANS for new safety measures at abandoned salt mines near Carrick have been given the go-ahead.

Councillors this week approved proposals for a 1,700 metre long fence, 2.4 metres in height, around the French Park and Maiden Mount mines adjacent to the New Line road.

Both mines have been at the centre of previous concerns about their stability or partial collapses, with the New Line diverted from its original route as a result.
