Minister’s funding workshop

DUP MEP Diane Dodds held a funding workshop for local community groups and not-for-profit organisations in Londonderry last week as part of a series of seminars promoting her recently published funding directory ‘Signposts to Funding Opportunities’.

A broad range of local groups attended including church representatives, local bands and representatives of the Loyal Orders.

Commenting after the event, she said: “I am in Londonderry quite often and one message I continually get here and in other towns and cities across Northern Ireland is that groups need funding but simply do not know how to go about getting it.

“In response to this need I have produced a funding directory outlining some of the major European and local funding streams available as well as giving some useful advice as to the initial steps groups should consider taking prior to application. There are literally hundreds of funds available and I want to see more of that available money being brought into Northern Ireland.

“It was very encouraging to see so many come along and show a real interest in the workshop and also their desire to play an active part in moving the community forward.”

The Miniser also met with representatives of the Apprentice Boys, and said of the meeting: “I have been working very closely with the Apprentice Boys to help bring about a transformation of the Memorial Hall into a first class visitor attraction and we are absolutely delighted with the progress made towards securing funding for that project.

“It is only right that the Apprentice Boys have the facilities to highlight their role in the history, the present and the future of this city particularly as we look towards the UK City of Culture status in 2013.”
