MP welcomes more police on the beat

EAST Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has welcomed the news that more police officers in the East Antrim area are to be deployed to front line duties.

In ‘D’ district, which includes Newtownabbey, there will be 33 more police officers involved in police response and neighbourhood policing teams.

The DUP representative said: “I have always been a strong advocate of getting more police officers out on the beat where they can deter crime and respond quickly when crime occurs so I was pleased to hear that more officers will be redeployed from backroom duties out to neighbourhood policing and police response teams.”

“I know that a more visible police presence on the ground is what people in East Antrim have been asking for and so this move will be welcomed, especially in areas with serious problems such as anti social behaviour,” he added.
