Woodburn Forest outside Carrickfergus will be venue for the “Mud Mayhem” event, which is being organised by Lea Vaughan in support of Dementia NI.

There will be a challenging array of obstacles over a five kilometre assault course, some man-made and others completely natural.

The event is being held on Saturday, March 25, and is the only mud run event in the East Antrim area, so Lea is hoping for good support locally.

“We are expecting approximately 30 to 40 runners and up to 30 spectators,” said Lea, who offers mud run training in the area and is also planning ahead for a summer event.

“The event is in aid of Dementia Ni and will hopefully help raise awareness and funds for this charity. I chose it because I have friends whose father suffers from dementia,” he explained.

Dementia NI aims to support people living with dementia and provide training, education and awareness.

Lea also organised a charity New Year swim at Carrick’s seafront which raised £3,000 for the Whitehead based Brainwaves NI charity in which 25 swimmers took part.

Registration for the run is £25, which includes race entry, a free goodie bag, free crepes, and medals which have been supplied by Dominos Pizza.
