Nobel laureate Hume thanks Clinton for visit

NOBEL laureate and former SDLP leader John Hume has expressed "deep gratitude" to former US President Bill Clinton for his decision to visit Londonderry yesterday.

Mr Hume said: "I expressed my deepest gratitude to Bill Clinton for coming to Derry.

"This was an outstanding day which created a very positive image of this city.

"The very fact that someone of his international status comes to the North West promotes this area very strongly – initially for its tourism potential and also I hope for inward investment.

"President Clinton has always been a strong supporter of peace and justice in Northern Ireland and gave great individual and personal support in helping to build the peace process.

"I have no doubt that his visit to Derry will have underlined very strongly the peace and stability that now exists here."
