Ice-cream plopping onto the pavement, a sister’s love of Liverpool FC and over-used clichés were among the annoyances aired by Primary Six pupils at a public speaking event at St Mary’s High School.

Primary school pupils from the Limavady borough were invited to participate in St Mary’s Young Speaker of the Year 2013 public speaking competition

This year’s topic was entitled, ‘I Find It Really Annoying When…’ Cormac Deeny from St Colmcille’s PS achieved third place by venting his annoyance at the plop of his freshly bought ice-cream on the pavement.

In second place was Ethan Clark from Termoncanice PS who humorously declared that his sister’s love of Liverpool FC most aggrieved him-a Chelsea fan. The deserved winner of the final was Joshua Howe from Limavady Central PS. His natural and professional delivery along with his witty remarks about frequently used clichés won the judges over.

Mrs Donnelly congratulated Joshua: “On this occasion I don’t have to apply the cliché ‘everyone’s a winner’ because I’m delighted to announce that Joshua you are in fact St Mary’s Young Speaker of the Year and our winner for 2013!”
