Parking restriction for blighted street

Moves are being made to tackle problems with parking along Brownlow Terrace.

Transport NI is to introduce parking restictions along the road which will see will see a single yellow line restricting parking at Brownlow Terrace, close to Lurgan Train Station, between the hours of 8am-10am.

Sinn Féin Councillor Keith Haughian has welcomed the announcement: “Brownlow Terrace has been affected by a number of traffic and parking problems for many years now.

“I welcome the fact that Transport NI have acted on my request to consult local residents, and informed Council of their intention to introduce this restriction.”

He continued, “Many local residents and local commuters have been extremely frustrated by the parking and traffic problems in the Brownlow Terrace area for many years.

“I would encourage local agencies including Transport NI and the Council to continue to engage with local residents to monitor the impact of this measure.”

Over the years calls have been made to address the serious parking problems which have blighted Brownlow Terrace residents.

Motorists who commute to Belfast and leave their cars parked in Brownlow Terrace have caused cause all kinds of problems.

Residents in the area and parents taking their children to the Model Primary School have had to weave their way through dozens of cars parked on the kerbs, not allowing prams or pushchairs to get through.

Also at issue have been lorries parking on the kerbs, again stopping prams and pushchairs from using the footpaths.
