A page has been set up on Facebook in a bid to help members of the community connect during the cost of living crisis and challenging times.

The ‘Cost of Living Community Help N Ireland’ page was established on Thursday, September 29 in a bid to support residents across Antrim, Newtownabbey and the greater north Belfast area and alleviate some of the difficulties people are currently facing.

The Facebook group, which has over 180 members at the time of publication, was set up by Glengormley Alderman Julian McGrath.

Alderman McGrath explained that the online platform will provide an opportunity for people from across the borough to exchange support, services and ideas in order to help tackle the cost of living crisis.

Although the social media page is in its infancy, money saving tips, including car shares to reduce the costs of fuel have already been shared alongside information about benefits advice and free winter coats initiatives, the Alliance representative added.

People can also share practical, proven money saving tips or deals in local shops and supermarkets.

Support services are also signposted on the page to help members of the community who are experiencing hardship during the current challenging climate.

Residents have also posted comments about pre-loved toys which they are offering to families in the run up to Christmas in a bid to keep costs down over the festive season.
