Postal pay row over

A DISPUTE over the delivery of election material in Londonderry has ended after almost a decade.

Staff had been refusing to deliver election literature because Royal Mail paid them a lower rate of pay than posties in Belfast.

Charlie Kelly from the Communication Workers' Union in Londonderry said the problem has now been resolved.

"Our argument all along has been for equality," he said.

"However, in this year's election we discovered we were due a higher payment that we were actually getting.

"They moved yesterday, April 27, and after 10 years of fighting the staff are absolutely delighted. They can move forward and not have this hassle come up every election."
