£285,000 improvement scheme for Cloyfin Road welcomed

The verge widening scheme at the junction of Cloyfin Road with the Ballywatt Road and the Ballyhome Road will extend for 850 metres.

Mr Kennedy said: “This scheme will improve this section of the B17 Cloyfin Road at Beardiville by removing high stone banks and ditches. As a result, drivers will benefit from clearer sight lines at Ballywatt and Ballyhone Roads.

All road users will benefit from improved visibility at these junctions, as well as along the Cloyfin Road itself.”

The works are scheduled to start before the end of February with completion expected within eight weeks.

As with all improvements of this type the planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. Roads Service will keep the public informed of any change.

Welcoming the announcement Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisin, said: “The news from the Minister that work to upgrade the Cloyfin Road at Beardiville near Coleraine is to start soon is good news for local residents.

“The works which will include increasing the visibility for motorists by removing high banks and ditches will no doubt improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

“It is important that we continue to look at improving the conditions of our roads in order to make safety a priority.

“The works are scheduled to start before the end of February and expected to last about eight weeks. 
“I would appeal to the local residents to work with the contractors in order to minimise any disruption so that the works can be finished as soon as possible.”

Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public. To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to put in place traffic control.

Drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.
