Residents evacuated during security alert

The Mill Road was closed for most of the morning following the discovery of a suspicious object in a bin.

A number of residents were forced to leave their homes and were moved to the valley Leisure Centre during the subsequent security operation.

Army technical officers were called to examine the suspicious object before it was later declared an “elaborate hoax” and the road reopened around noon.
