Rubbish is a health hazard

Speaking yesterday, Tuesday, after he was alerted to the latest dump of domestic rubbish at Fisherman’s Lane in the village Mr Devenney said if it could be established where the waste came from the culprits could expect to be pursued by the City Council and prosecuted.

“This is all household waste that has been dumped at this site. There is also dog food among what has been thrown out here,” he said.

“I was horrified when I attended the scene and saw just how much had been dumped here, there is no need for this,” he said, continuing: “In previous years there has been a history of rubbish being dumped here, and I think this is the third time an incident like this ha occurred in this same area. To be fair to the cleansing department at the Council they have been very prompt about cleaning it up before, but it shoudl not be happening.”

Mr Devenney said most households had blue and black bins at their homes and should be using them to dispose of household waste or recycling items such as plastic bottles and cardboard.

“For those who do not have a suitable bin it is a simple process to have one delivered by the Council. There is no need for this type of dumping. It is an attraction to vermin like rats, and can very quickly become a health hazard. If cleansing staff at the council can identify who has done this they will automatically send out a £50 to the guilty party, or the culprit could be prosecuted,” he said, adding: “It is wrong to dump rubbish in an area like this. It is detrimental to the environment and can cause problems for the wildlife too.”
