Pars on the last two holes consolidated his winning score with 21 pts in the front nine and 21pts on the back nine. Second place with 39 pts was Peter Taylor (13) pipping Brian Bates (17) on 38 pts.

Peter had nine pars in his round whereas Brian will be regretting his double bogie on the last. Alan Crockard (6) won the best gross.

The GUI also got underway with Lambeg losing out to Kirkistown 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 away in the Ulster Cup. Three plavers, Darren McShane, Tom Coulter (Team Captain), and Andrew Burrell scored with half points and the sole winner was Raymond Rodgers.

The Ulster fourball team were up against a very strong Blackwood team at Aberdelghy but came away with a fine 3-2 win. The match was poised at 2-2 after Mark Neeson and Tom Craig won 6 and 5 and Sam Thompson and John Mc Ardel won 3 and 2. The fifth match went to the very last putt on the last hole and it was Brian Mc Gonigle who gave Lambeg that vital win. Taking this slender lead to Blackwood will make it tough for the boys from Lambeg.
