Sham Fight a winner with RBP

MEMBERS of the Royal Black Preceptory in Londonderry enjoyed a ‘first’ just over a week ago, when they travelled to the Sham Fight at Scarva.

Although a few members had visited as individuals in the past, it was the first time an official delegation from the north west descended on the annual spectacle - with the Churchill Flute Band in tow.

The scarlet-clad band cut a real dash at the Scarva Demonstration, and were warmly applauded and welcomed along with the Sir Knights of the RBP of No2 District.

Among them was the Chaplain of the RBP113, Victor Wray, and the City of Londonderry Grand Master, james Hetherington, who said: “I was delighted to attend the event and I was quite taken to see the crowds that attended. I understand there was around 120,000 people there, which is fantastic. It was a veyr difgnified parade and was very well organised and we thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to returning in the near future.”

Mr Wray added: “We want to thank RBP 1000 for their invite and help during the day and we want to thank the organisers for the prominent position we held in the procession. We were one of the first Preceptories out of the field behind Tandragee No1 District. I know the Churchill really enjoyed their day and it was a great experience for the younger members of the band.

“It was a long march, but the reception was brilliant and we want to then the organisers and those who took care of us during the day and in the Demonstration Field. We will be back,” he said.
