Sinn Fein’s McKay welcomes withdrawl of fracking application

Mr McKay said; “I welcome the fact that Rathlin energy have withdrawn an application to carry out drilling associated with fracking at Ballinlea.

“There had been huge concern in the area at this application and this is a victory for the campaign to protect the north coast from fracking.

“ I congratulate those involved in the campaign, particularly the Protect the North Coast group (PONC) on the fantastic work they carried out to highlight the threat posed by fracking.

“The north coast is renowned for its beauty and fracking is not in the best interest of an area which is heavily reliant on attracting tourists to sustain itself economically.

“Sinn Féin will continue to oppose fracking anywhere on the island of Ireland.”
