Specsavers in £300,000 move to high street

Specsavers is to move into Portadown's main street in the spring with a £300,000 expansion.

The optician’s, which has been based in the Meadows Shopping Centre for 20 years, will be located in the former Debonair premises, on the corner of High Street and Edward Street.

Michael Kennedy, store director in Portadown, said the bigger premises in the town centre will enable it to meet increasing customer demands for essential eye care and ear care services.

The new store will have four optical test rooms and a dedicated hearing centre with a soundproof room for hearing testing.

In addition to this, it will be fully equipped with the very latest software “to help make the process of dispensing glasses smoother and quicker”.

The investment has been made by Mr Kennedy and fellow store director JP Rice who have together clocked up 35 years in the business.

Mr Kennedy said, “We have enjoyed a fantastic 20 years in our current premises but have decided to relocate to a larger store right in the town centre. “This will allow us to meet increasing customer demands for our services and also offer local residents the very best level of care possible.

“We are delighted to bring this new, much-needed investment to the town and want to thank the local community for their support and custom over the years.”

The new store is scheduled to open in the late spring and, in the meantime, customers can continue to access the full range of services at the existing Meadows premises.

Meanwhile, just across the road in High Street Mall, two new shops have opened recently - fashion jeweller Look of Kells and digital photography store Image Express.

Mall manager Tracey Jackson said that another new store is due to open in April and a further two in May/June, but could not reveal their identities at this 
stage.
