Staff say cheers!

STAFF at the Old Bushmills Distillery have brought some cheer to people affected by chest, heart and stroke illnesses – by raising nearly £10,000. NI Chest, Heart & Stroke was the distillery's Charity of the Year in 2009 and the total raised was handed over this week.

The events that helped bring in the money included a sponsored barrel roll, a coffee morning, an art exhibition and a Christmas shopping event. Staff also took part in the Causeway Trek and sold the charity's healthy recipe book.

NICHS Area Appeals Co-ordinator Valerie Saunders said: "This has been a great year, and it shows how a company working with a charity can bring benefits for the whole community. We thank everyone at Old Bushmills Distillery for their hard work and for the magnificent result – a cheque for 9828 which will make a real difference to those who depend on our services."

The distillery's Joanna Morrow said: "We have been proud to be part of the fundraising effort for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke over the last year. The amount raised is testament to the esteem in which the charity is held by the employees and we hope it will go some way to improve the lives of those who have been affected by chest, heart and stroke related illnesses. We hope that Chest, Heart and Stroke will continue to receive support from the community and would like to thank them for all their help and input with our fundraising throughout the year"
