Strabane may get gas

THE gas network may be extended to Strabane pending a planned economic analysis, Investment Minister Arlene Foster has revealed.

Discussions have already taken place with the utility regulator on the possible extension of the network to gas bereft towns including Strabane, Omagh and Magherafelt.

The Minister revealed a 2011 consultation supported extending the natural gas network to main towns in the West and North West.

“Following the consultation, my officials have been having discussions with the Utility Regulator in relation to how best to take forward gas network extension.

“As part of this work, I plan to complete a detailed economic analysis covering the costs and benefits of extending the network to the above areas,” the Minister stated.
