Suspended jail sentence

A 19-year-old man who kicked his victim after knocking him down with a car has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Sean Mark McMonagle, from Knightsbridge in Londonderry, admitted aggravated taking of the car causing grievous bodily harm in July 2008.

He was spotted driving the car by another man, who McMonagle then drove into. He got out and kicked his victim while he lay injured.

McMonagle was sentenced to 18 months in prison suspended for two years.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years, fined 300, and ordered to pay his victim 1,500.

The judge said it was a "shameful and disgraceful" crime.
