UUP exercised by ‘runway racers’ and ‘dereliction’

The Ulster Unionist Party candidate for the Faughan Ward, Ronnie McKeegan, has promised to raise the issue of noise pollution coming from car racing adjacent to Eglinton Airport with Derry City Council and to deal with it directly if elected to the new Derry and Strabane Council.

He said: “There are major concerns about the noise factor coming from cars being raced on old runways off Lower Station Road. I will be contacting the Council to have them investigate this enterprise as the noise currently exceeds that experienced with airplanes taking off and landing.

“The residents in the immediate area are suffering from this interference.”

He added: “I had a several calls late on Sunday night and this nuisance needs to stop. I have now reported the matter to the PSNI.”

Meanwhile, party colleague and candidate in the Waterside DEA, Julia Kee, has raised the issue of dereliction in the area.

She said: “We have key areas and sites like Ebrington Primary School and Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre soon to be freed up but no concrete plans on their use.

“My Party will be looking for the establishment of a Waterside Health Hub at Lisnagelvin to address many of the underlying community health issues that are so impacting on the residents of the Waterside.

“There are needs in Clooney and Ebrington that require a fully functioning sports, recreation and community hub and we look forward to developing these matters with the Groups in Lincoln Courts, Clooney, Ebrington, Bonds Street and Triangle.”

The UUP says it is mindful that the Waterside is lagging behind the rest of the city in terms of infrastructure and has vowed to work to address these matters.
