Shortly after 9pm on January 1, a Sligo based helicopter concentrated its searchlights on the river shore running alongside the Bay Road industrial estate for several minutes.

It then travelled upstream searching near the Peace Bridge before progressing further in the direction of the Craigavon Bridge.

Whilst the Coastguard scanned the river from the air, Foyle Search and Rescue were carrying out a complementary search operation on the river itself.
