Kasia Nikrasewicz, who is currently living in Greenisland, captivated Rotarians with her enterprising spirit, her determination to help others and her eagerness to extend her own leadership and management skills.

She explained how she has been selected as a voluntary International Service team leader on a United Nations urban agricultural initiative based in El Alto in Bolivia.

A statement from Carrickfergus Rotary Club added that as a recent graduate in sustainable development from Kingston University in London this is a project of special interest to Kasia.

“She will lead, manage and motivate a team of twelve volunteers - six British and six Bolivian – who will be working with the locals in a particularly poor urban area to train them in vegetable growing and marketing their produce for self sufficiency.

“In an area of poverty and poor nutrition an important aspect of the work will be to educate the locals on the nutritional value of fruit and vegetables in their daily diet.”

Rotarian Colin de Fleury congratulated Kasia on her entrepreneurial and volunteering spirit and invited her back to the club to give an account of her Bolivian experience on her return to Greenisland.
