Update: Elderly woman robbed in her own home in Coagh, is in her eighties

An elderly woman who was robbed in her own home in Coagh on Saturday night, is understood to be in her eighties.

Mid Ulster councillor Mark Glasgow, expressed his anger over the robbery and raised concerns over rural policing.

He said: “Shocking to hear this news, the criminals must be brought before the justice system.

“Our rural villages need more of a police presence.”

Police say a number of men entered the house on Main Street, at around 9.30pm.

“The woman was kept in her bedroom by one of the men whilst the others involved searched the house for money,” said Detective Inspector Danny Walsh.

“A sum of cash was reported to have been taken from the house.

“The woman was not physically injured during the incident but was left suffering from shock.”

The detective added: “It is unclear at this time if the suspects left the scene on foot or in a vehicle and I would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact CID at Cookstown on 101. “Information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
