Young Defenders prepare for annual competition

LISBURN Young Defenders Flute Band are holding their Annual Invitational Melody Flute competition this Saturday March 31.

The event will be held in Lisburn Orange Hall in Railway Street from 1pm until 7pm.

The adjudicator on the day will be conductor Mr G Shields, who will have a difficult job with a first class entry of 11 of Northern Ireland’s top melody flute bands, as well as Baillies Lane, one of Scotland’s top melody flute bands, who will be travelling over to compete.

Each band, who will be identified by number and not their name to ensure all round fairness, will play their own choice of pieces for approximately 20 minutes.

Bands playing at the event include Brookeborough, Ballymacarrett Defs, Ballyhalbert FB, City of Belfast Fife and Drum, Omagh Protestant Boys, Pride of Ballinran, Killkeel, Pride of the Raven, Sir George White Mem Broughshane, Skeogh, Shankill Road Defs, SOW Cookstown and Baillies Lane Corps of Drums.
