All Ireland win for Alpha

Alpha Badminton Club lifted the All Ireland Club Cup Championship with the result being in doubt right up until the mixed doubles clash between Alpha’s Ciaran Chambers and Caroline Black proved too strong for Lakewood’s Liam McNamara and Ciara O’Connor winning in straight sets in Galway.

Johnny Harron got Alpha off to a good start beating Colm Kelly in the singles only for Munster’s Lakewood to level when Gemma Tobin got the better of Jenny Ryan in the women’s singles.

Ciaran Chambers and Ryan Stewart put the Lisburn team back into a promising position with victory over Colm Kelly and Gary O’Sullivan only for Lakewood to make it 2-2 when Liam McNamara and Ali Zain beat Johnny Harron and Martin Leoe.
