BCC’s Nevin and Montgomery enjoy weekend of success

Ballymoney CC Biesty’s Centra Tri and Off Road teams are in action each weekend with new to the sport Stuart Nevin getting an excellent runners up spot from accomplished triathlete Colin Loughery in the Drumreagh Dash Duathlon organised on Saturday by Drumreagh Church, Soul Cafe Youth Outreach Group.

And Rowan Montgomery, 11, getting 5th at the Off road cyclo cross events at Falls Park in Belfast.

This Autumn Duathlon is a new event on the calendar and saw a great turn out of beginners and experienced athletes. Starting at the church in Bendooragh with a 2 mile run and then a 10 mile bike time trial and then finishedoff with another tough 2 mile run. Winner of this inaugural event was Limavady triathlete/cyclist Colin Loughery from the Biesty’s Centra racer Stuart Nevin in his second ever competitive event was an early leader and was just over hauled by Loughery in the final miles.

The Off road racing is getting ever more popular and 300 cyclists lined up at Falls Park in Belfast for the 4th round of the Cycling Ulster CX Series and again Ballymoney Youth team racers were in the top ten, with Rowan Mongomery getting 5th in the U12s and Clark Logan 7th in the U10 event. Missing from the line up was usual contender Reese Doherty, 7, who recently broke his arm in a spill at Davagh. Everyone wishes Reece a speedy recovery and back in action again soon.

Ballymoney Cycling Centre of Excellence for Youth Development has been growing with exciting numbers getting involved in the very healthy pass time of cycling. Young people from all abilities are encouraged to come along and take part in the weekend runs.

This week saw an exciting round of specialist Wattbike tests conducted at Dalriada school with youth riders doing the tough 4 minute sustainable power wattage test.

There will be a full report coming soon with some very exciting announcements being prepared for the stars of tomorrow. Tour de France winner Stephen Roche has been following the progress of the Ballymoney CC youth team riders and is in contact with team organiser Maurice McAllister and club Captain Jason Taggart.
