Biggest turn-out for start of model club's season

CRAIGAVON Model Car Club saw one of its best turn outs in recent years for the 2010 season opener on Saturday April 10 with some 21 entries signing on for the three classes.

The hot weather played a big part on the day leaving the new layered track in tip top condition for all the racers.

The saloons, and fastest class of the day was one to watch with Wicklow’s Cormac Wyatt starting at the back of the grid and working his way to the front to take the win with a stunning 81 laps.

Mike Sloan from Moira, the reigning Irish Champion, got the defence of his title of to a flying start by setting the fastest lap to claim pole position. Unfortunately mechanical failure ruined his day, forcing him to retire with only seventeen laps completed.

In the Super-Bike class Irish champion, Davy Adair from Portadown, proved he’s still the man to beat with his track day tools sponsored KP10 bike by setting pole position and claiming two straight wins grabbing max points for the day.

The buggies saw some of their tightest racing yet with the leaders changing places five or six times in 49 laps. Andy Fagan from Newry, held it together to eventually claim the top spot with John Jennett from Banbridge, second a nail biting six seconds behind.
