Dessie wins fifth successive title

Ballymoney Powerlifting Club’s Dessie Scott has created history again with another impressive performance.

Dessie claimed the British Classic Powerlifting Championship title for the fifth successive year, a remarkable achievement!

Lifting in the 74kg class and conceding two-and-a-half kilos to leading contender henry Clarke, who was a winner in ITV’s ‘Amazing Greys’ challenge competition, Dessie needed only seven of his allocated nine attempts to win the title by an impressive twenty-two and a half kilos.

It was another impressive showing by the local man in the big competitions, and is yet another title for Dessie to be proud of .

“I’m very pleased to have won the title again for the fifth successive year,” Dessie told Times Sport.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their help.”

He is the current World Deadlift champion and European Powerlifting champion.

Dessie also holds the current British and Northern Ireland records, and is the only Northern Ireland lifter to hold Commonwealth records.

Dessie does his conditioning work at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney.

He also trains at Gerry’s Gym in Coleraine, where he is coached by Gerry McLaughlin.
