A case of déjà vu for the Whites

It sounded more like a score update coming out of Wimbledon as opposed to football at New Grosvenor on Saturday as Dundela went home with a 6-3 win for the second time this season.

The wind played a big part in proceedings on the day and to their credit the visitors were using it well taking shots from all over the park and it was no surprise when they went ahead on a mere seven minutes as poor defending by Distillery saw an Owain Beggs cross find McCain his shot beating McBride and nestling into the net, certainly not a good start for temporary manager Andy Harwood’s Whites.

Beggs then turned from provider to goal scorer on nine minutes as his thumping shot sailed into the top corner of the net.

Lisburn Distillery were soon right back in with a shout after a superb jinking run by Chris Kingsberry saw him hacked down in the box the referee having no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Stephen Doyle to send Sergeant the wrong way in the Dundela goal and in doing so reducing the deficit.

Dundela, however, didn’t have to wait long for their two goal lead to be restored when on thirteen minutes as what can only be described as a world class strike from distance by Scott Collins flew into the top corner.

A poor day, however, soon got worse for the Whites as Jamie Black got the Duns fourth

Thirty six minutes in another goal for Dundela as the high winds continued to play havoc with proceedings.

Dundela were then awarded a penalty on forty four minutes as ex-Distillery player Michael Halliday was adjudged to have been pushed in the box by Kris Pike, a decision which brought anger from the Distillery dug out and players. Up stepped Black but he blazed his effort high and wide over the bar.

The protestations from the home bench continued after the penalty miss and the referee’s reaction was to send off the Whites stand in manager Harwood on the stroke of half time.

Whites hopes of getting back into the game were as good as extinguished on forty eight minutes as Beggs took advantage of a poor defensive communication in the Distillery defence allowing him to nip in to make it 1-6.

Nathan McConnell was introduced to the fray and he didn’t take long to get into the action making it 2-6 as he took the ball down on his chest and cracked a smashing strike into the roof of the net.

The Whites continued to press and they did get some reward when they were awarded another penalty late in the game and Doyle stepped up to make it two for him and three for the Whites on the day. And so the second visit of Dundela ended off very much déjà vu to the first, a 6-3 scoreline to the visitors and yet a game which could have could have had a very different outcome.
