Carrick boss Gary Haveron says the belief among his players is high as they battle to beat the drop in the Danske Bank Premiership.

The Gers lifted themselves off the bottom of the table after they edged to a 1-0 win over Dungannon Swifts at Seaview on Wednesday. Kyle Cherry’s 66th-minute strike proved crucial and Haveron was happy to get another three points on the board.

“I’m just delighted to get another win,” he said in his post-match interview with the Times. “Every win in this league is criticaland every point is precious to us, especially given the position we’re in.

“The belief amongst the boys is still there and we haven’t let any negativity creep in. We’re trying to be as positive as we possibly can.

“We knew the importance of tonight and we’ve closed the gap on Dungannon and jumped ahead of Warrenpoint. We’ve still got to another game in hand as well. All in all, it’s a positive result.”

Meanwhile, Carrick have given up home advantage against Crusaders in Saturday’s Irish Cup quarter-final. Pitch problems at Taylor’s Avenue have been well documented and the tie has been switched to Seaview (3pm).
