Celtic Club claim cup win

Celtic Club (Lurgan No 1) finished Saturday’s Marshall Cup clash in seventh heaven with victory in the derby date against Lurgan BBOB.

Bobby McKerr steered home a free-kick to break the deadlock before Niall Dummigan’s powerful header doubled the advantage.

Celtic Club worked hard to prevent BBOB from closing the gap and Donal McCourt’s spectacular drive from distance found the net via the underside of the crossbar for number three.

McCourt increased his tally moments after with a measured lob over the exposed BBOB goalkeeper.

Johnny Russell steered home a slick overhead kick to reduce the deficit to 4-1 early in the second half.

However, the Celtic Club response proved impressive and John McLoughlin capped clever approach play with a pass which McCourt converted to wrap up his hat-trick.

McLoughlin turned from provider to scorer by tucking away Sam Haughey’s pass.

Sean McConville proved alert in the final moments to collect a loose ball, skip past no fewer that four attempted challenges before tucking away the final goal.

The game marked another win to the Celtic Club tally during continued progress. Celtic entered the match with Gary Gilmore as captain. Matthew Kennedy had the skipper’s armband for BBOB and both captains offered a warm welcome to Jay Beatty as mascot.
