Davey nets hat-trick in win over AFC Carrick

In Junior Division Two AFC Carrick switched their game against Ballyclare North End from Greenisland to the Taylor’s Avenue 3G pitch.

AFC went in front early in the game through Tony Matthews but saw that lead cancelled out when Ryan Davey struck to bring the teams level at half-time.

Early in the second session Davey netted a quickfire double to complete his hat-trick, leaving AFC and uphill task to save the game.

AFC never gave up the chase and with time running out Matty Corr gave them hope when he scored their second goal but they couldn’t find a leveller.

In a game played on another 3G pitch, this time at Jordanstown, FC Whiteabbey won 3-0 against FC Ballynure Reserves.

After a scoreless first half Tony Southam broke the deadlock for Whiteabbey in the 55th minute. Ballynure had to chase the game after this and got caught when Conor Mullan nipped in to score goal number two for Whiteabbey on 76 minutes.

A similar situation occurred in the 85th minute when Chris Loy scored number three for Whiteabbey to seal the win.

In Division Three Red Star eased to a 5-1 win over Carrick Swifts. The Swifts took the lead but found themselves on the back foot when Stuart Thomson netted a brace.

Both teams had chances to score but it was Red Star who made them count with Noel O’Connor, Graham Harrison and Curtis Clark finding the net to round off a comprehensive win.

In Division Four, Forthriver got the edge over Glengormley United with a 2-1 victory. They went ahead courtesy of a United own goal with Conor Young putting them two clear. Glengormley could only muster a late consolation.

Elsewhere Monkstown had three men sent off as they lost 3-2 to 3rd Ballyclare OB. Lee Rossi, Steve Howe and William Shannon were on the scoresheet for the Old Boys.

Castle Star missed out on a Canada Trophy semi-final spot on Saturday, losing 4-1 away to Cookstown RBL. Goals from Andy Kelso, Ricky McMenemy, Robbie Allen and Joel Wylie put the County Tyrone men through.
