FOOTBALL: Jonny Evans named fans' Player of Year at West Brom

Newtownabbey's Jonny Evans has been named Player of the Year by West Bromwich Albion's Supporters' Club.

The Premier League defender pipped ex-Manchester United team-mate Darren Fletcher to the prize at the fans’ awards on Tuesday.

Last summer Evans, a former pupil at Belfast High School, moved to The Hawthorns from Old Trafford having made 196 appearances for the Red Devils.

He has become a firm favourite with the Baggies faithful playing 32 times in all competitions for Tony Pulis’ team.

Evans is expected to be a key figure in Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland squad for the European Championship in France which kicks off next month.
