Gregg happy with fighting spirit

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg was delighted with the fight-back attitude his side produced at Ballymoney United, on Saturday.

The Drumahoe club were losing 2-0 at half-time but they produced a super second half display to win the game 3-2, much to the boss' delight.

"To be honest we were always in the game, we made a few school boys errors at the back and that cost us," he said.

"Unfortunately because we are a young side we are going to make errors, but we need to start learning from them.

"I told the boys at the back to just win their tackles, stand up whenever they had to and also win their headers and to be fair to them they did that in the second half.

The Coleraine man admitted that although Jason Blackburn and Joe McCready were the two players substituted at the break, there were also a few others who didn't hit form in the opening 45 minutes.

"I made two changes at half-time, but I wanted to make six or seven after just 20 minutes, but credit to the boys we showed great grit and determination and fought back to win the game," he added.

"I have said it before it doesn't matter how good you are if you don't put the work in then you are going to struggle and we simply didn't work hard enough in the first half, on Saturday.

"But the second half I got a marked improvement and to be honest we created six or seven clear cut opportunities and thankfully took three of them.

"I told both Conor and Darren to go out and show me that you want to get into the starting line-up and both of them were excellent.

"Conor was a little bit down whenever he found out that he wasn't starting, but to be fair both Conor McShane and Ruairi McClean have done well for me in midfield, but credit to Lyncher he and Darren showed the right attitude whenever they came on."

Gregg also believes that the matter of the fight back could be a turning point in 'Stute's season.

"Because we are a young side I would have loved to have gone to Ballymoney and won 1-0, that would have been a great result, but because we won the game coming from behind then I think it might be a big result for us.

"But to come from two goals down at half-time and win the game is brilliant and it shows that the players want to give their all for the club."
