Institute boss Paul Kee admitted that he and his coaching staff weren’t happy with striker’s Stephen O’Flynn and Darren McFadden’s first half display at Ballinamallard United and they were told about it at half-time.

The Waterside man did praise his striking duo for their work-rate at the break and because of that O’Flynn in particular got his rewards.

“In the first half we were very disappointed with O’Flynn and McFadden,” he stated.

“Yes McFadden scored but the ball was coming back too much and we had no forward movement, we were playing good enough football leading up the pitch but in the final third the ball was just coming straight back and we weren’t happy with the performance.

“The ball was sticking under O’Flynn’s feet and he couldn’t hold it up for us, but what does he do right at the start of the season half, he gets our second goal and that’s him.

“We told the two that they needed to get things sorted out, we appreciate that it’s hard work, but we needed to sort it out and they did.

“Look O’Flynn has put a shift in and by his own admission he is still working on his fitness, but he has got physical qualities, but if I’m being honest we need to get him fitter and we’ll be talking about that to him this week.

“But he is a quality player and he’ll benefit from the fitness, he’ll be a better player, he’ll be a better player for Institute, he’ll be a better player for himself and he’ll also put himself in the shop window more, which I’m sure he still has ambition.”

Kee also conceded that there were no raised voices at the interval but his points put across did have an effect after the break.

“Going 2-1 down and feeling a bit disappointed at half-time but there was no tea-cups fired or anything like that, no raised voices, it was just a total review and we said if they wanted to play in the second half then they had to do this and they did that in the second half.

“They went out in the second half and showed that they are more than capable of playing in the Premiership, but we have to have that level of performance every week.”
