The Cork native, who has signed until the end of the season, is hoping he can use his experience to help ’Stute gain promotion this season.

“I think Institute is probably one of the best clubs in the First Division regarding coaching, players stadium and facilities,” stated O’Flynn.

“I think if they can hold onto the current squad and maybe bring one or two in then they can make a push for promotion.

“They have a young squad but they have lots of potential, but they do have one or two lads like Paddy McLaughlin and Parkie (Stephen Parkhouse) who are experienced, but in the main they have a pretty young squad.

“I have had a few chats with Paul (Kee) in recent weeks and he’s hoping to bring in a few players and he’s worried that some of the young players who have done well in the first half of the season may leave.”

The former Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic striker, who has struggled over the last year with an achilles problem, is looking to get back to enjoying his football.

“I wasn’t enjoying my football over the last few years at Limerick and St Pat’s, because of injury, so I just needed to get away from it, but that’s now sorted and I just want to get back playing and enjoying my football,” added O’Flynn.

“I had an achilles injury but I went to the North West Independent Hospital in Ballykelly and got myself sorted. I have been back doing a bit of training with ’Stute and my main aim is to just get back, get fit, enjoy it and god knows where it might lead.

“If I can help by chipping in with a few goals, then so be it.

“But in some cases with players in the squad this might be the first and only chance of winning the First Division, so they need gave one more big push in the second half of the season.”

The 31-year-old striker admits that after he receives international clearance he’ll be raring to back playing, but he believes his experience having played and scored goals in the League of Ireland will benefit the young players at Drumahoe.

“Although I’m not 100 per cent match fit and I need game time, but hopefully at training and before games I’ll be able to help out giving advice and stuff like that.

“I have been enjoying the training at ’Stute, they are a good group of lads and I think they are looking to add a few more players along with myself just to try and see them over the line in regards promotion,” he concluded.
