Relief as Dollybirds get back in winning groove

Dollingstown finally got back to winning ways against a Wakehurst team who despite being bottom of the table fought right through to the final minute at Planters Park.

The first half belonged to Dollingstown who played some excellent football with Glen Hand very prominent on the right hand side and on eight minutes he combined very well with Rodgers but his effort was cleared off the line.

Then on 15 minutes Hughes headed over from five yards out after a great run down the left by Ritchie Thompson who minutes later combined very well with Gibson but the keeper saved well down to his left

On 25 minutes Dollingstown opened the scoring when after determined work down the right again by Hand delivered a great cross for Gibson to head home.

Then on the half hour mark it was 2-0 when from another strong run down the right by Hand the ball ran to Thompson who needed two shots to double the lead.

Once again the Dollybirds fell asleep from a simple throw in on 40 minutes and young Rodgers who was outstanding at centre back made a foul inside the area and McCartney scored from the spot.

Dollingstown appeared to have wrapped up the match on 47 minutes when Thompson scored again when the ball over the top was dropped by the keeper and he duly despatched the ball into the net.

This should have been the chance for Dollingstown to relax and control the game but the opposite happened and from a corner Alexander tapped home to make it 3-2.

Manager Gary Duke introduced Adams and Donaghy for J Rodgers and Gibson and after Jamie Tomelty failed to score from inside the area it was sub Donaghy who wrapped up the game when he tapped in after great run down the right by Thompson.

This was a valuable result means they stay in top half of the table.

The club thank Armagh Tile for sponsoring the game.
