Skipper delighted to be unlikely goal scorer as Bannsiders keep run going

Up until last week the 23-year-old had registered only one goal in appearances.

But on Tuesday night the skipper popped up with an all important strike to double his overall tally and earn the Bannsiders a point in their clash with Ballinamallard United.

“The free kick bounced back to Ruairi Harkin at the edge of the box and I just decided to stay in there to see what would develop,” he told Times Sport after the game.

“He fizzed it back in again and thankfully I was able to adjust my feet in time and knock it into the net.

“I’m delighted to be able to double my goal tally of one and take it up to two now. Hopefully there’s more to come!”

Overall though Beverland and his team-mates were left frustrated that they didn’t manage to finally take all three points off Whitey Anderson’s men, who were reduced to 10 men just before he levelled things up at the end of the first half.

A combination of horrendous weather conditions and dogged defending by the visitors stymied the hosts.

“It was extremely difficult conditions for both teams,” said Beverland.

“We were trying to get the ball down and play football and take the game to Ballinamallard. But in fairness to them they are on a difficult run at the minute, we’ve been there, they were setting their stall out for a draw and they got that.

“It was a frustrating night for us, we had saw this as a good opportunity to pick up three points.

“As much as we are disappointed not to win the game it is another game notched up on our unbeaten run.

“We are happy with the direction we are going in at the minute, it’s not that long ago that we were struggling to get any sort of result.

“But we set our sights high here and we want to climb that table. We just have to make sure we put it right in the next game.”
