Under-10s win seven-goal thriller

Coleraine Academy Under-10s started off their new season at Ballysally with what was maybe a fortunate win over a very good Maiden City team, who will cause a lot of teams problems this season.

The Academy started off slowly and before they had got into their stride found themselves 2-0 down. All credit to the young boys their heads didn’t drop and they started to play the pass and move football which the coaches know they are capable of. Just before half time they pulled a goal back through Owen Boyd.

Into the second half and the Academy were right back in the game when Zac Dealey, who had replaced Owen, got his first goal of the new season. In what was turning out to be a very entertaining game the Academy again fell behind to a somewhat scrappy goal but continued to play some good football and were rewarded when captain Rafferty MacKay scored to make it 3 -3.

With time running out and both sets of coaches and parents settling for a draw the Academy won a corner in the last minute and up stepped Lewis Tosh to curl it in direct from the corner flag with that reliable left foot of his, this is not the first time Lewis has done this so there was no fluke about the goal.

A good start by the boys with every one of them playing their part, from Jake in goals to Peter, Jack and David at the back Reece, Owen, Zac, Lewis and Rafferty in midfield and Bobby covering every bit of grass up front.

Well done boys remember your three A’s, keep up the hard work at training and it will show on a Saturday mornings.

In addition to their squads currently playing in the North West and Mid Ulster Leagues, Coleraine FC Academy are looking for more players who are currently in either P6 or P7, regardless of their current playing standard, to represent Coleraine FC at the Friendship League.

This competition is played on Friday evenings at the 3G pitch at the Joey Dunlop centre in Ballymoney.

Coleraine FC Academy will be entering three teams, two boys and one girls, into this competition, so there is plenty of opportunity for kids who otherwise would not get the chance to represent Coleraine to come along and have fun.
