United hit Chimney Corner for six

United’s 6-1 win helped them gain revenge on Corner who beat the Toon earlier in the season.

Manager Paul Gaston was impressed with the scoreline and also the number of chances his side created.

The victory moves United up to a healthy ninth spot in the Championship Two.

A proud Gaston said: “It could have been double figures and we were 2 nil up inside 10 minutes. There were chances and chances and we’d a couple of goals disallowed.”

Forward Benny McGarry got United off to a great start when he scored on two minutes.

Mark Gillan raced past a defender and squared the ball for the new signing to register his first goal for the club.

Gerald Gillan made it 2-nil on eight minutes when he was put through on goal. He struck the ball past the keeper onto the post and knocked in the rebound.

After the break Gerald Gillan scored again on 55 minutes. He challenged the goalkeeper for the ball which broke to him and he slotted it into the net .

Ian Christie notched up the fourth by rounding the keeper after being played in by Gerald Gillan on 70 minutes.

Defender Gareth Hill headed in the fifth from a cross on 75 minutes and striker Mark Gillan got on the goal trail by netting the sixth ten minutes from time.

Chimney Corner grabbed a consolation strike in added time.

Ballymoney face a stiffer test this Saturday (31 March) when they play third-placed Dundela in Belfast.
