We need to be more clinical says Kearney

ORAN Kearney believes that if his side are more clinical in attack it will ultimately help the defence.

The Bannsiders boss has been a frustrated spectator in some games this season, as they have failed to kill games off when they are on top and are then punished at the other end.

Saturday’s defeat was a case in point. One goal to the good Coleraine carved out several good opportunities to grab a second. But it never arrived and before you know it the game has swung around as Ards took the chances which came there way.

“You have to take your chances when you are on top,” Kearney said after the game.

“We had a purple patch of about 20 minutes after the break but unfortunately we only scored once.

“When Ards’ had their purple patch they scored three times. That’s the difference, we are not putting teams away.

People have talked about our defensive record and clean sheets but for me that comes from when you are on top in games.

“Whe you are on top and score two or three goals it takes the pressure off the defnce and kills teams off. That’s where the clean sheets come from.

“But at 1-0 teams always have a chance. It’s very rare that you dominate games for 90 minutes in this league, so teams will get chances.

“When it’s tight though teams are more up for the fight and you will get punished.”
