Winless Amateurs give league champions a fright

Anthony McCartney’s side were beaten 4-3 by the Limavady-based outfit, having led 2-1 at one stage with their opponents down to 10 men.

In Junior Division Three, the all-Ballymena encounter between Wakehurst Strollers and Clough Rangers Athletic ended all square.

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

Newtowne 4, Carniny Amateurs 3: Billy Doran put Newtowne in front on the 5th minute then Carniny equalised with a penalty converted by Michael O’Mullan on the 20th minute and at this time Newtowne had a man sent off for handball inside the box.

Jake Armstrong put Carniny in front with a sweet free kick on 35 minutes. Newtowne came back with goals scored by Billy Doran and Owen Kelly to go in front then added a fourth on the 55th minute scored by Ryan Logue.

Carniny got a third goal with Jake Armstrong scoring on the 68th minute but try as they did they could not find another equaliser.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Antrim Rovers 1, Castle Star 3: Castle went in front after Warren Brown scored on the 7th minute then Alan Jones equalised for Antrim on the 35th minute.

Warren Brown scored his second goal on the 42nd minute and Castle went on to secure the win after Dean Meneely scored their third goal on the 80th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Carniny Amateurs II 1, FC Whiteabbey 4: Goals from Martin Cousins, Conor Mullan and Jonny Montgomery on the 2nd, 5th and 36th minutes saw Whiteabbey three clear at half-time.

Aaron Henderson pulled a goal back for Carniny the on the 55th minute but as time was running out Gerard Southam completed the scoring on the 80th minute for Whiteabbey.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Wakehurst Strollers 1, Clough Rangers Athletic 1: Clough took the lead after Gary Hamilton scored on the 5th minute but Strollers replied with Jon Alexander scoring on the 17th minute.

In the second half the Strollers had a number of chances to win the game but had to settle for a point at the end.

Other result: Red Star 4, Brantwood Reserves 7.

JUNIOR DIVISION FOUR

Results: 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys 0, Krag ALbion 9; Forthriver FC 3, Monkstown FC 3; Mallusk Athletic Reserves 2, Carnlough Swifts 0.

CRAWFORD CUP

Round two result: Brantwood 2, Magherafelt Sky Blues 0.

Round three result: Rathcoole FC 7, Glengormley United 0.

CANADA TROPHY, ROUND ONE

Chimney Corner Reserves 2, Rathcoole FC Reserves 2 (aet, Corner won 4-1 on pens): Corner, with a brace of goal from Chris McIlroy on the 20th and 62nd minutes. led 2-0 as the game went into the last 15 minutes of normal time. Rathcoole came back to level the game and take the game to extra time where no more goals were scored.

Penalty kicks were then taken resulting in the Corner scoring their first four and Rathcoole putting three of their penalties wide of the target.
