GOLF: Team 14 lead the way at Foyle

Teams now starting the second half of the qualifying section in the Desmond Motors Winter League at Foyle.

Leading the way is Team 14 consisting of Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Michael Henry and Dermott Harkin, having returned the best score to date in the qualifying, an excellent 97 points for an accumulated 556 points total from their six cards now hold an eight point lead over Team 20 with four rounds to play.

In the Ladies section of the League Team 2 consisting of Myra Gough, Lorna Thompson and Florence Rankin having accumulated 310 points from their six cards extent their lead at the top to a very comfortable 22 points over Teams 23 and 9 both teams in second on 288 points.

Week seven of the Foyle Sunday Society had another good turnout in difficult playing conditions but the members were delighted to get out on the course after all the inclement weather testament to the condition of the Ballyarnett Course.

The recently retired Gary Jackson (10) coming to form with a fine winning score of 39 points, John Coyle (11) finished runner up two points adrift with Gary McElroy (8) taking his third podium position in as many weeks to secure third place.

Foyle Golf Club are holding a Charity Fund raiser in Pitchers Wine Bar & Restaurant this Friday November 20th0 in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and the High Dependency Unit Altnagelvin Hospital.

Proceedings get underway at 7.30pm sharp with a ‘Night At The Races’ followed by dancing to Gary McEvoy and His Band.

Admission is £10 which includes light refreshments and everyone is welcome.
