High handicap players storm competition

The competition at the weekend was for the Colonial Mutual Trophy played in stableford format was dominated by high handicappers.

One of the clubs youngest players Mark Dempsey playing off a handicap of 25 for the last time had the best round of his life.

Mark opened up with a fantastic opening nine of just four over par gross score of 39 giving him a massive 26 points! Completing his round with 42 blows adding a further 24 for the magical score of 50 points. Two players each finished with what would normally be good enough to win most times but on this occasion had to settle for runner/up and third. After the enforcement of the tie-break it was Trevor Cupples (20) edged Mickey Kane (19) with nines of 22 and 21 against Mickey’s 23 and 20. Sam Reid with the only two scooped the twos kitty !!

The previous weekend an 18 hole Voucher sweep was won by Aaron Mooney (9) with a good score of 40 points. Aaron opened with 17 points before closing with a level par back nine thanks to birdies at holes 12 and 16 yielding a further 23 to win by a point from runner-up Lester McCoy (12). Despite failing to score at the opening hole Lester opened with 18 points before adding 21 for 39 points.

Another point back two players scored 38 points with Sam Reid (15) 17 and 21 edging Robert Orr (11) 18 and 20 for third prize with the better back nine. Twos were scored by T. Boyd R. Milliken J. Kelly and D. Mulholland.
