Craig, who scooped two medals, competed in the Male Senior -75kg and Under 21 -75kg at the event, which was held near krakow.

Competing in the Male Senior -75kg first, Craig came up against an opponent from Ukraine, who got the better of the local sportsman, however, Craig still went on to take third place.

It was in the Under 21 -75kg that Craig would shine, however, with the Lisburn teenager taking Gold.

Having drawn the same opponent, Craig was this time able to get the better of the Ukrainian, winning 3-0, to go through to the second round.

Craig was then up against an opponent from Serbia, managing to come through that battle, before going on to take the Gold.

“I knew it was going to be a hard competition,” said Craig. “I was hoping I would maybe get a medal, but I never thought I would take first place.”

The success follows Craig’s three bronze medals at the British Open Karate tournament in September.

Craig, 18, who is currently studying Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Ulster, still has plenty more competitions to concentrate on.

“Next up is the Belgium Open at the end of November, so there will be lots of training to do.”
