Lisnagarvey Thirds get the better of a strong Harlequins side at Comber Road

Meanwhile the high flying Thirds were looking to continue their magnificent campaign with an attempt to regain third place in junior 1.

The game started at a fast pace with Garvey having to absorb large amounts of pressure.

The Garvey defence looked resilient and handled everything that Harlequins had to throw at them in the first twenty minutes, however, Garvey knew they had to whether the storm and apply some pressure of their own.

Garvey first gained momentum after their centre forward Ian Harbinson nicked the ball from the Harlequins centre back before applying a clean strike into the bottom corner.

From this point the game swung and Garvey dominated the final fifteen minutes of the half.

Minutes after the opening goal Garvey won their first short corner.

The corner was switched to Richard McConkey who finished calmly to extend his growing goal tally for the season. Minutes later again and it was McConkey with an assist finding Glenn Halliday at the back post who put his side 3-0 up.

Harlequins went in shell shocked at half time after conceding three goals in less then 10 minutes.

The second half was very much Garvey continuing their solid defensive display against a Harlequins side that had a lot of possession.

Chances were starting to come for Harlequins who had to apply a lot of pressure to turn the game around, however, this left them vulnerable on the break and Garvey should really have extended their lead with some of their counter attacking opportunities.

Harlequins eventual got a consolation prize with the game finishing 3-1 to Garvey. Special mention goes to Neil Brazil who had an excellent game in the Garvey goal.
