Maxwell to captain Northern Ireland at stateside event

The week got off to an excellent start for East Coast Athletic Club when it was announced that its chairman, Justin Maxwell, was selected to represent and captain the Northern Ireland team at the World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Championships in America next month.

Competition kicked off on Saturday morning when Drew Girvin completed the Salty Sea Dog Triathlon in Boscombe, representing East Coast in the Super Sprint event. Drew finished the event in 47:31, securing fourth overall and first in his category.

On Sunday, Peter McManus travelled to Worcestershire for the Evesham Vale 10k, finishing the hilly route in 55:11.

In the Poole parkrun, Drew Girvin was first across the line for the family in a time of 21:47 (82nd place). Sisters, Hannah Girvin, Leah Girvin and Sarah Girvin all achieved a new personal bests when they crossed the line in 29:08 (99th lady), 30:17 (119th lady), and 31:42 (139th lady) respectively, with Glenda Girvin who claimed 140th lady in 31:43.

Hazel Ritchie took part in the Portrush parkrun – running well over the scenic but tough course, in a time of 31:50 (39th lady).

In Saturday’s Larne parkrun Mark McManus was first home for the club, claiming second place in 19:28. Daniel Girvin was next in 19:42, taking third, followed by Naoise McLoughlin in a time of 21:23 (seventh).

Danny Hylands covered the course in 21:48 (8th), followed by Matthew McIlroy (22:18 - 11th). Alex Robertson finished in 22:44 (16th), just before young Callum McIlroy (23:21 - 21st).

Lisa Graham reached the finish in 26:35 (7th lady) with Angela Campbell just two seconds later in 26:37 (8th lady). Ruth Kelly achieved a new personal best of 27:45 after running strongly to claim 11th lady.

East Coast Cheetah, Charlotte Smyth covered the 5k in 36:19 (27th lady), followed by Joanna and Luke McIlroy in 38:59 (31st lady) and 39:00 (93rd) respectively.
