McFarland claims Doyle Shipping Group Stableford success at Galgorm

At halfway Jonathan McCart (12) was a point ahead of George Reid (19) who in turn was one point ahead of Chris Cooke (14) and Paul Reid (12).

Two and three points further back came Andrew McLarnon (12) and John McFarland (21) respectively. Through The Maple McCart was joined by Cooke with G.Reid close up a point behind. Two points further back came P.Reid, McLarnon and an improving McFarland. Up the Grove and approaching the Lowlands tee McCart was leading by a point from Cooke.

McCart lost his chance of winning when he took a ‘ding’ at the last after a bogey at the Lowlands. McFarland’s forward momentum continued and he finished with a par and a bogey to win Overall by one point from G.Reid (two bogeys) in the Overall Runner-Up position. Cooke (double bogey, par) joined McCart another point behind and with a better back nine Cooke won Division 2 from McCart in second place. P.Reid finished with two bogeys to take third place.

In Division 1 at the turn Trevor Fleming (9) and Joel McNeilly (5) were leading by one point from Stephen Logan (8). Mark Dunlop (4) and David Stirling jnr were two points further back. Through The Maple Fleming (‘ding’ at eleven) was leading by a point but was being hard pressed by McNeilly, Logan and an improving Stirling jnr.

In a very close finish Fleming came home bogey, par to win by one point from Stirling jnr. (bogey, par), Dunlop (bogey, par), Logan (birdie, ‘ding’) and McNeilly (two pars) who finished together and with a better back six second place went to Dunlop with Stirling jnr. (better back nine) third.

Mark Hayes (16) was leading Seamus Laverty (16) by two points in Division 3 after the front nine followed by Noel McAlynn (19) a further point down. Hayes ‘dinged’ the next two holes and was two points off the pace at The Maple where McAlynn had taken over the lead by one point from Laverty. McAlynn finished double bogey, bogey to win by two points from Laverty (two bogeys) and Hayes (two bogeys) who finished level. Laverty with a better back nine finished second with Hayes third.

Reginald Marks (20) led Division 4 at the halfway mark by two points from Conor McAuley (22), Michael Simpson (21) and James Rea (27) with Hugh Mussen (25) a further two points back. Marks increased his lead to three points through twelve from McAuley.

With two to play Marks after two double bogeys was joined by McAuley. With a bogey, par finish McAuley won by three points from Marks (‘ding’, bogey). A further point behind, Rea (triple bogey, bogey), Simpson (bogey, par) and Mussen (bogey, doluble bogey) finished together and with a better back nine third place went to Mussen.

The Gross was won by Michael Reid (-2) with thirty four points and Andrew Young (19) with thirty seven points (better back nine) won the Seniors.
